BINGLEY Festival will not take place this summer, festival bosses have confirmed.

Not to be confused with the Gareth Gates-headlined Challenge Festival later this month, the event has run out of Bradford & Bingley Rugby Club for the last couple of years

Names such as Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds, The Libertines, and James Bay graced the stage.

Now the "difficult decision" to postpone the event until 2025 has been confirmed.

Bosses say "rising costs of running the festival have made it nearly impossible to deliver the event".

They add that festival-goers' "patience will be rewarded" when they host the event next year.

Full statement

A post on the Bingley Weekender read: "Our loyal friends, it'll come as no surprise, but with a heavy heart, we must announce the difficult decision to postpone Bingley Festival until 2025.

"After months of work planning our return this summer, the rising costs of running the festival have made it nearly impossible to deliver the event in a way we envisioned and you are accustomed to.

"In order to ensure the festival's future, we have chosen to take a year off to plan for an exceptional event next year, which will be part of the Bradford City of Culture 2025 celebrations

"This decision was not taken lightly, and we have exhausted all options to welcome you back in 2024.

"Unfortunately, many events face similar financial challenges in these unprecedented times, resulting in several other independent festivals postponing their events recently.

"With your continued support and our commitment to delivering exceptional line-ups, we aim to shape the future of Bingley Festival.

"Thank you for standing by us, and we look forward to seeing you next year.

The festival's history

The event has run under various guises over the years.

Bingley Music Live, run by Bradford Council, had proven popular until it was cancelled in 2019.

It came after the 2018 event ran at a loss - going £300,000 over budget.

The festival then evolved into Bingley Weekender and later, Bingley Festival.

Names such as Calvin Harris, Chic, Kaiser Chiefs, and Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds have performed in the past.

The last few events have been held at Bradford & Bingley Rugby Club - with a crowd of 17,000 braving the rainy conditions in 2023.
