TRIBUTES have been paid to a "committed" and "passionate" former Bradford councillor who has died.

Sher Khan, of Little Horton, died on Friday (May 3) and tributes have been pouring in for the former Bradford councillor, who at one time served as the Chief Whip for Labour Party on the Council.

Mr Khan's death was announced on the Janaza Announcements' Facebook page and his funeral was held at the Madni Masjid on Newton Street in West Bowling.

Mr Khan was a long-time councillor in the Little Horton ward area of the city and one former councillor said he was a councillor for "at least 15 years".

Cllr Ralph Berry (Lab, Wibsey) said: "I knew him extremely well. He was an excellent Chief Whip and was a very committed local councillor.

"He built a lot of networks for local people and as a Chief Whip he had a good handle on people and understood other councillors.

"Sher was a firm father figure in our group.

"He had a great sense of humour and was very committed to his family.

"He was a compassionate guy.

"He leaves a good legacy and will be well remembered."

Cllr David Green (Lab, Wibsey) also paid tribute to his former colleague, who was the Chief Whip when Cllr Green was the Council Leader.

"Sher Khan was first and foremost a lovely man.

"He was always willing to help friends and colleagues when they needed it.

"He was a straight talker and a incredible ward councillor for Little Horton.

"He was held in high esteem by everyone who came across him."

One person messaged the T&A to pay tribute, saying: "Former Councillor Sher Khan of Little Horton passed away on Friday, May 3.

"He was beloved in his constituency and we will forever be grateful for his contributions."

On Janaza's Facebook page, one person said his passing would be a "sad loss".

Another person wrote: "Mercy shine upon the family and bring the family strength during this testing time."
